Field Trip to PIAT UGM: Learning Orchid Tissue Culture Techniques Firsthand Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta – In order to deepen their practical understanding of plant biotechnology, students of the Biology Education Study Program successfully organized a Field Trip to the Agrotechnology Innovation Center (PIAT) UGM. This activity was part of the learning agenda for the Tissue Culture course.
This visit aimed to provide a firsthand look at the process and techniques of tissue culture, with a primary focus on orchids. Students had the opportunity to observe laboratory facilities, sterilization stages, planting media, and the acclimatization processes carried out by expert technicians at PIAT UGM.
Through this activity, students not only learned theory in the classroom but also gained a real-world perspective on the application of tissue culture in mass plant propagation and species preservation. Interactive discussions with practitioners in the field further enriched the students' insights into the challenges and opportunities within the biotechnology industry.
With the completion of this field trip, it is hoped that students will develop better practical skills and be motivated to advance their research in the field of plant tissue culture.
