Field Trip to the Yogyakarta Department of Agriculture and Food: Studying Banana Tissue Culture Techniques
Yogyakarta – In order to deepen their practical understanding of plant biotechnology, students of the Biology Education Study Program successfully organized a Field Trip to the Yogyakarta Department of Agriculture and Food. This activity was part of the learning agenda for the Tissue Culture course.
This visit aimed to provide a firsthand look at the process and techniques of tissue culture, with a primary focus on banana plants. Students had the opportunity to observe laboratory facilities, explant sterilization stages, planting media, and the acclimatization process of banana seedlings carried out by expert technicians.
Through this activity, students not only learned theory in the classroom but also gained a real-world perspective on the application of tissue culture in providing mass, disease-free superior seeds. Interactive discussions with practitioners in the field further enriched the students' insights into the role of biotechnology in supporting food security.
With the completion of this field trip, it is hoped that students will develop better practical skills and be motivated to advance their research in the field of plant tissue culture.
